This week the Young Autosports team headed east to the other side of Lake Michigan to the Hartford Motor Speedway in Hartford, MI. 21 cars greeted the J&J Gaerte Engine powered #3. Scott would qualify about halfway through the 21 cars in attendance and would qualify in the 5th position. This would line Scott up in the 5th starting position in the 2nd heat race. Scott would make 1 lap before the rearend in the car would break causing the u-joint to shatter. The team would hustle to replace the u-joint and rearend and the work paid off as they completed just in time for the start of the feature. The bad luck for the night would continue as the car would now not fire sending the car back to the trailer. The team discovered the problem was a plug was just barely not making contact which would not allow the car to fire. The team packed up and headed to home to compete the next night at the Wilmot Raceway. The team headed to the Wilmot Raceway and was greeted with a very slimy track. Hot laps were run twice and the Young Autosports looked as to be one of the fastest cars in hot laps. Scott would qualify near the end of the 38 cars present and could only muster a 23rd place qualifying position. Scott would start on the pole of the 3rd heat race and cruise to the first heat race win of the season. With the win in the heat race, it put the #3 sprinter back into the invert for the feature. Scott would line up in the 7th starting position. Bad luck struck the team again as the car lost the brakes during the feature. Scott tried to move forward, but with no brakes at such a small facility it only caused him to lose positions. In the end Scott would finish in the 12th position. This week look for the team to head north to the Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with a another date with the Interstate Racing Association. On June 11th the Young Autosports team will head to the Oshkosh Speedzone in Oshkosh, WI and on June 18th to the the Spoon River Speedway in Canton, IL with the Midwest All Star Series. A Fast Start that Ended Quick at the Beaver Dam Raceway May 5, 2010 - Union Grove, WI. After a week off due to rain, the Young Autosports team headed north again to Beaver Dam, but this time to the Beaver Dam Raceway. The team was once again greeted with sunny skies and high winds. Scott would draw towards the middle of the field again for qualifying. The #3 Gaerte Engine J&J mount would pick up where it left off 2 weeks ago and pick up the Osborn and Son Fast Qualifier Award over the 38 competitors present. The quick time set Scott up to start in the sixth position of the 1st heat race. Scott began his run towards the front, but it ended abruptly as while trying to pass a competitor in turn 2 the other competitor slid up forcing Scott to smack the wall hard knocking the front end out of the car. To make matters worse, after slowing the car to exit the track, the car took off and smacked hard into the turn 3 wall ending the night for the team and destroying the front end of the car.
The team will not be traveling to the Clay County Fairgrounds in Spencer, IA or the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA as tenatively scheduled. Look for the team to return trackside Memorial Day Weekend for 3 nights, 1 in Michigan and 2 in Wisconsin. Rick Schmidt Memorial at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Recap
April 20, 2010 - Union Grove, WI. Scott and the Young Autosports sprinter kicked off the season this past weekend at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, WI for the Rick Schmidt Memorial. The team was greeted with very windy conditions setting up a track that was drying out rather quickly. Scott would go out right in the middle of the 31 competitors that were present and laid down the 5th fastest time of the night. This would set up the Young Autosports #3 with a 5th place starting position in the 2nd heat race. The heat race was slowed several times at the beginning, but when things got rolling Scott would advance to finish in the 2nd position behind race long leader Brooke Tatnell. With an invert pill of 4 drawn for the feature, the Gaerte powered J&J #3 would line up in the 4th starting position. The first 4 laps of the feature was slowed countless times, but when the event finally go going it didn’t take long for the Young Autosports #3 to make its way forward and take the lead. Scott held the lead until a late caution bunched the field back up again. On the restart Scott would hold the lead through turns 1 and 2 until turn 3 and 4 when 2nd place racer, Brooke Tatnell threw a slider, but Scott dove back under him come out of 4 to regain the lead at the flagstand. The sliders continued for the next 3 laps at both ends of the track. With 2 laps to go Scott would try to put another slider on Brooke, but drove in too deep and nearly spun out in the middle of 1 and 2. He reacted quickly, but Brooke was gone and Mike Reinke, Steve Meyer, and Scotty Nietzel maneuvered by. Scott would continue the last lap and a half and end up finishing in the 5th position. All in all the team was happy with the results of the first race of the year. The team will return to action this upcoming weekend again at the Dodge County Fairgrounds to try and get the win that slipped away this week. The following weekend the team will again travel to Beaver Dam, but to the 1/3 mile track 2 miles down the road at the Beaver Dam Raceway formally known at Charter Raceway Park. Scott Young Returns to Victory Lane September 9, 2009 – Union Grove, WI. After a near 3 month hiatus, Scott Young and the Young Autosports #3 sprinter returned to the racing scene with the Interstate Racing Association. The team traveled north to knock the rust off and get a solid finish at the Dodge County Fairgrounds located just outside of Beaver Dam, WI. The night would start out with a solid 5th place qualifying effort setting the #3 sprinter up with a 5th place starting position in the 2nd heat race. At the start of the heat race Scott would advance 2 spots, but loose 1 back about halfway through to finish in the 4th position transferring him directly into the feature event. With the #5 pill drawn by the fast qualifier, Scott would line up in the 6th starting position. The main event was marred with several cautions at the beginning including a fuel stop before a lap could even be recorded. In the end, Scott would run as high as 3rd and as low as 9th, but in the end would finish where he started in the 6th position. The team was satisfied with the top ten finish since it is the first race back since mid-June and loaded up and headed to southwest Wisconsin for a Saturday night date at the Grant County Speedway in Lancaster, WI. Scott and the team returned to the Grant County Speedway where they last visited in 2005 where they had a win slip out of their grasp due to 2 lap cars spinning in front of him that year. Scott and Scotty Neitzel were in a tight battle for the lead in the race and in the points championship when 2 lap cars spun if front of them causing both to spin out and have to restart at the rear of the field. Both charged back through the competitors that night and finished a respectable 3rd and 4th from the rear with Scott edging Scotty out by less than a foot. Both teams joked about that night before the night started hoping both were that fast again, but would hopefully stay out of trouble. The team once again qualified towards the top of the chart for the second night in a row, this time in the 3rd position. This would line Scott up in the 6th starting position of the 3rd heat race. At the drop of the green, Scott would charge forward 3 positions to the 3rd position with a slightly tight racecar. With the invert pill of 2 drawn for the feature, Scott would line up in the 3rd starting position. At the drop of the 1st green, it looked as if the night was going to end early as the #3 sprinter did a wheel-stand at the flag stand causing several competitors to drive by on the start, but a yellow was thrown for a stalled car so a complete restart would follow. The second restart proved to be much better as would fall into place in the 4th position and battle his way into the 3rd position before a caution flew for the leader, moving Scott into the 2nd position on the restart. Scott would actually restart with 4 cars between him and the leader, but would dispose of them quickly until another caution would fly before a lap was complete erasing the passing of the cars. On the next restart Scott would again dispose of the lapped cars and set his sights on the leader. Scott continued to try and track down the leader until disaster struck for the leader when he spun coming out turn 2 and was run over by a lapped car surrendering the lead to Scott with 2 laps to go. On the restart, Scott would hold his line on the high side of the track and hold off charges from Scotty Neitzel and Mike Reinke to capture the team’s first win of the 2009 season. Look for the Scott and the Young Autosports team to return to action on September 18th at Oshkosh Speedzone and September 19th at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, WI with the IRA. Scott and Young Autosports would like to thank our loyal sponsors: Infinite Transport, Callahan Motorsports, Stumble Inn Bar and Grill, J&J Auto Racing, Gaerte Engines, Hephner Racing Products, Butlerbuilt, Weld Racing Wheels, N1 Performance and Design, GME Steering Gears, Bell Helmets, XYZ Machining, Fibertec Performance, and Waterman Racing Components.
