News Things Looked Better.....For a Little While June 1, 2008 - Union Grove, WI. After taking the holiday weekend off and make a few changes to the car, the Young Autosports mount was back in action at Round 2 of Dual at the Dam at Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam, WI. The team would was again draw a late number for qualifying and the track would once again be slick from top to bottom for qualifying. Scott would muster the 7th fastest time out of 34 cars. After Qualifying, the track staff decided to tear the track up to try and provide a better show for the fans. With the 7th place qualifying effort, Scott would line up in the 5th starting position of the 3rd heat race. Scott would waste little time as he began to make his charge forward as he would miss his 2nd heat race win of the year by 1 car length and showing that he was by far the fastest car in that race. With 4 cars that out qualified the #3 mount not transferring through their heat races, this would move Scott the #3 in the invert which ultimately may have hurt their chances of starting closer to the front, as a 4 was drawn lining the Young Autosports #3 up in the 8th starting position. On the start, Scott would stay where he started on let everyone string out a little and then started his charge forward. Scott showed that the car was working well as he moved up into the top 5. A lap 19 yellow would bunch the field up and give Scott a chance at the leaders. After the restart, Scott would smack the wall exiting turn 4 after sliding up the track, and on lap 21 the #3 would jump the cushion in turn and roll over softly ending the teams night early. The team will head home to rebuild the car to compete this upcoming weekend at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, WI on Friday and at the Oshkosh Speedzone Park in Oshkosh, WI on Saturday. Gloomy Results at Shawano May 18, 2008 - Union Grove, WI. The forecast was calling for rain again as the team headed north to Shawano, WI. The IRA sprints visited the 1/2 mile oval first the first time since 2001 when fuel was $1.97 a gallon. Scott would make his qualifying attempt near the end of a drying up quickly track, but would still make a 6th effort of the 26 competitors. This would line Scott up in the 5th starting position of the 3rd heat race. By the time the Young Autosports 3 would hit the track for the heat race, the track was slick from top to bottom after the late model cars raced 5 - 20 lap heat races. During the heat race, Scott would advance 1 position to lock him into the invert for the feature. With the draw of 4, Scott would line the #3 mount up in the 3rd starting position. On the start Scott would get bottled up and lose several positions. Scott gained some positions back when he found a line that no one else was using and was in position to take over the 3rd position when disaster struck again!! A lap car spun and slid up the track into the line that Scott was running on lap 17. This would put the Young Autosports car to the rear of the field. With eight laps remaining, Scott would make charge forward to finish in the 12th position. Look for the Young Autosports team to back in action at Round 2 of the Duel at the Dam at Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam, WI Racing Finally Gets Under Way May 5, 2008 – Union Grove, WI. It was looking like another rain out for racing this weekend, but racing in Wisconsin finally got underway. The Young Autosports team loaded up and headed north through the rain to Charter Raceway Park in Beaver Dam, WI for Round 1 of the Dual at the Dam racing with the Badger Midgets. The team figured on a heavy and rough track, but what they saw in the first set of hot laps was dust. Scott was the second car to time and was three tenths of a second or faster than almost all the competitors and looked to have quick time locked up until one car timed in faster towards the end of all of the qualifiers giving Scott the 2nd fastest time of the night. This effort would line Scott up in the 6th starting position for the 2nd heat race. On the initial start, Scott would charge through turns 1 and 2 and be in the 2nd position by the backstretch, but the yellow was waved for a spinning car. This would move Scott up a row for the restart, and Scott would take full advantage of it. The restart would see the #3 charge to the lead coming out of turn 2 and would cruise to an easy victory. With the redraw of 4, this would line the Young Autosports #3 in the 7th starting position. The first attempt to start the feature would be short lived as the yellow would come out due to the alternate not leaving the track. On the 2nd attempt, Scott would loose some positions, but would regain them shortly. The top seven cars were all within striking distance of each other for anyone of them to possibly take the lead. When the group of cars endured lap traffic, Scott would have trouble getting around one lap car and spun out on lap 17 to avoid contact. Scott would rejoin the tail end of the field and begin his charge back towards the front. Lap 25 saw a red flag and this caused the left rear of the #3 to loose heat and air pressure in the tire and caused it to nearly go flat. Scott would try to get heat into the tires to regain the air pressure when the yellow came back out. On lap 28, the left rear finally gave out while running in the 10th position from the tail, ending the team’s night 2 laps too early.
The Young Autosports Team’s plans for next week are up in the air at time. They will either be traveling with the Interstate Racing Association to Burlington, IA’s 34 Raceway on Friday and “The Sprint Car Capital of the World”, Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA on Saturday, or they will travel east to compete with the locals at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, OH on Friday and the at “The Track Action Built” Fremont Speedway in Fremont, OH on Saturday.
